joelaz: The Biggest Drawing in the World Artist Erik Nordenankar sent a briefcase with a GPS tracking device around the world via DHL.  The route the case took, as tracked on a map, became the strokes of his drawing.  More details, photos, and videos describing the project on his site (via Ze Frank). I love this. I love it because in Art History class we learned a lot about artists who earned their fame by using new methods that others had not used before. Be it photographs, splattering paint, screen printing, performing, becoming part of your piece, etc. It seems sometimes that everything has been done, and in this day and age the process is just as important as the resulting piece of artwork (in the art world at least). When you think that hope is lost and nobody will create anything new, look to something like this. This is awesome. Using today’s technology to create artwork on an extremely grand scale.This reminds me of the Digital Media students. Not because it is a GPS, but because it’s crazy and original idea. They amaze me. Every time I attend one of their shows, part of me says, “What the fuck is this,” while the majority of me says, “This is fucking incredible.” I feel like this drawing, as well as the Digial Media students’ work, is something my parents (no offense mom an dad) or other “traditionalists” would not consider real art. But I do, and I love it. And I love that I can walk into a room at Cine and see five people following along to a Yoga video and think, “Yep. This is definitely art.”
